Dragon Ball Z Attack of the Saiyans

The Dragon Ball Z franchise is the kind that can easily fit different video game genres. The fighting games have filled that genre up. The Legacy of Goku titles took care of the action adventure with some leveling up. Dragon Ball Z Attack of the Saiyans enters the full role playing game genre. Namco Bandai has done a good job publishing this solid role playing video game. Many well known Dragon Ball Z characters are in this role playing game. There are also some new chapters that are being written for this Nintendo DS game.

The RPG Master was initially disappointed with the graphics in Dragon Ball Z Attack of the Saiyans. The characters were ultra small. This drastically improves once the player enters battle screens. The character size and animation increases. There are female characters busting all out, and there is a lot of fighting. The player gives the command and then watches the characters enact the attacks.

The music is awesome in Dragon Ball Z Attack of the Saiyans. The RPG Master could tell a lot of effort was put into this hand held video game. The down side of this section is there is humor not appropriate for children, and words that were not needed. Hats off to the ESRB for catching all of those. The language holds Dragon Ball Z Attack of the Saiyans back from being a great game.

Dragon Ball Z Attack of the Saiyans is one of those role playing games that includes a lot of items, and skills that can be unlocked. These skills are purchased with points earned from battles. This allows the player to decide what to unlock and when. The RPG Master enjoys a video game that puts the decision in the hands of the players. It will take most role playing gamers a few weeks to beat this DS game.

There was a wasted opportunity in Dragon Ball Z Attack of the Saiyans. Many of the menu screens do not have complete touch screen controls. It is fine using the buttons, and it works great. The RPG Master kept trying to press big buttons on the screen. The leveling up system, and customization made this reviewer want to reach the next level. Saves could have been more frequent in certain parts.

The main goal of Dragon Ball Z Attack of the Saiyans is to train harder to get stronger. There is a certain selfishness to that goal. Players complete numerous missions where they help out others. The afterlife concept in Dragon Ball Z is strange. With a few tweaks here and there a sequel could be really good. There is a lot of Dragon Ball Z material left.

There is a certain flow to Dragon Ball Z Attack of the Saiyans that keeps this video game true to the franchise. The RPG Master also found an addictive nature to playing this DS game. The chapters are kept short which works great for a hand held video game. RPG gamers will find an adequate adventure, and DBZ fans will also enjoy Dragon Ball Z Attack of the Saiyans on the Nintendo DS.
