Kim Possible What's the Switch
SCORE: 67
Ron Stoppable and Dr. Drakken get their minds switched when they both
try and grab a magical vase at the same time. It is up to Kim Possible,
and her normal nemesis Shego to get the vase back, and fix this problem.
This Playstation 2 (PS2) game is based on the Disney cartoon series that
stars well Kim Possible. The men in this game are shown as complete
wimps, and the girls are shown as in control, in power, and completely
in charge. I am not familiar enough with the television show to know if
the game accurately reflects it. My research suggests the game does
accurately reflect the attitudes of the television show.
Graphically Kim Possible: What’s the Switch? uses the cel shaded
style, and is generally pretty dark. I was thankful to get through
certain parts of the game due to the artistic style; which is not my cup
of tea. There are images of fighting as the player must at certain
intervals pummel the bad guys until they vanish. In other areas the
player could run by them, but is encouraged to beat all of the enemies
(since they grant a collectable item that unlocks material in the game).
Rufus is a naked little animal but nothing was done with his graphics to
be anatomically correct.
The sounds in Kim Possible: What’s the Switch? are very crisp and
clear. The voice acting is top notch, and exhibited emotions quite well.
There are punching, and kicking sounds, along with explosions. The music
is decent, which does not become annoying or memorable.
Kim Possible: What’s the Switch? is pretty short, but there are plenty
of collectable items for those interested in playing enough to acquire
all of them. More than one person can play this. If you are a real fan
of the Kim Possible show, you will probably want to give this one a
rental. If the feminist ideology offends you, then most assuredly steer
clear of this one.
Buena Vista Games created a game that plays differently than many
action adventure side scrolling beat em up games. The levels are split
into quite a few mini levels, and the player is swapping back and forth
between Shego, and Kim. The controls work just as they should, and the
Shadow Training is a welcome feature indeed. The different gadgets
perform quite well. There are a few difficult spots in this game due to
level design.
I honestly expected something different from Kim Possible. The whole
men are whimpering losers, and women are the heroes troubled me deeply.
What is more troubling is this is coming from Disney. This game
certainly tries to throw out traditionally accepted family values, to
radical ones that can leads to gender confusion. I was embarrassed by
this game, and it was a chore to play and review it. Thankfully the game
ended pretty quickly. I would love to have no more sequels to this
franchise, but have a feeling they will keep coming.
