The Rocketeer #1

I remember this character from many decades ago. When I saw The
Rocketeer #1 was for sale I decided to purchase it. To make things
better The Rocketeer #1 shows as $1.99. There are twenty-five pages of
comic book content within The Rocketeer #1. There are also six art pages
within The Rocketeer #1. The end of The Rocketeer #1 contains some
advertisements. The credits for The Rocketeer #1 are found on the back
of the front cover.
The issues families can have with The Rocketeer #1 are violence, blood,
lack of attire, enticement to lust and more. The Rocketeer #1 is under
an interesting label. The front cover says IDW Classics Presents. I
wonder if this is the IDW Publishing version of a facsimile of an older
comic book. There are four different stories within The Rocketeer #1.
The stories are The Rocketeer, Work To Do, Betty Saves the Day, and On
Life.
I promise to include spoilers for the rest of this review. The first
story is about Cliff (aka The Rocketeer) trying to save the life of
another pilot. Cliff stole this rocket pack to be able to fly up there
and save another pilot in The Rocketeer #1. Cliff saves the man and
flies off. We are also introduced to Betty his love interest in The
Rocketeer #1. Cliff crashed into a warehouse while someone else is
standing there.
The Work To Do story in The Rocketeer #1 is a bit odd. Cliff is staying
in bed too long and Betty is trying to get him moving. Then Cliff is in
a war zone with some giant machine to fight. Before Cliff can go there
is a dying man that asks to be saved. Cliff gets the man to a doctor so
he has a fighting chance. Cliff then goes after the machine and it ends.
The next story starts black and white with a recap.
The third story in The Rocketeer #1 is Betty Saves the Day. The
Rocketeer #1 says this is episode six. The art in this one reminds me of
Batman TAS. There is a bit of humor in this third story. Betty saves
Cliff after he was shot. She flies him out of there in her underwear.
Cliff is in the hospital and The Rocketeer #1 tells us that the next one
will have Nazi's in the hospital.
The final story in The Rocketeer #1 has much more modern art. Cliff is
fighting these Japanese World War II planes. Next Cliff goes to a beach
on what looks like an island and kisses Betty in a bathing suit. I am
so unclear what was going on in that one. The Rocketeer #1 is an
interesting callback to a bygone era. I feel there is a lot of history
behind and surrounding The Rocketeer #1.
