The Judges 1
SCORE: 77
The Judges 1 picks up where the Joshua comic book left off. In fact
The Judges 1 starts out with a reminder about the death of Joshua. The
credits in The Judges 1 can be found on the back of the front cover.
This comic book cost me $2.00. There are twenty-four pages of comic book
content within The Judges 1. The inside of the back cover and the back
cover of The Judges 1 contain other Kingstone Comics that can be
purchased.
Spoilers will be a part of this review from this point until the end.
The people of Israel went through the same cycle and pattern again and
again in The Judges 1. I remember studying this in the Holy Bible in the
past. One generation is obedient to God and they prosper. The next one
is rebellious and is punished. This happened again and again in The
Judges 1. The people would cry out to God and He would save them.
There is some violence and blood within The Judges 1. The people of
Israel would marry people from the neighboring countries and wind up
following their false gods. I always wondered why they did not learn
from the mistakes of the past. We can read about this history and
acknowledge the mistakes. We can acknowledge that we need to be faithful
and obedient to God. People in our day and age make the same mistakes.
Humanity has not progressed very far.
Othniel is a great example of a man that followed God and was blessed
for it. The people prospered for the years of his reign. Ehud killed an
oppressive king that was really fat. There were eighty years of peace
under Ehud. Another aspect of The Judges 1 that sticks out to me is the
Israelites did not need a king. The judges were more than enough.
Following God faithfully was more than enough.
Shamgar and Deborah are covered within The Judges 1. Barak could have
been given glory for winning a battle but his lack of faith meant it
went to a woman. God intervened in the battle and made the opposing
armies chariots absolutely worthless in the mud. A woman killed the king
while he hid in her tent. The Judges 1 ends with Deborah singing a
praise to God for saving them. How often do we thank God for all of the
blessings He gives us?
