Roguecraft DX

I am thankful I had the $32.95 to purchase a copy of the Roguecraft DX on Evercade. This is a single title cartridge. Ya’ll know how I feel about that. If we are getting less content we should pay less for the games. Evercade cartridges used to cost just under twenty dollars. Now they are a lot more, and this is one 16-bit indie video game. Anyone else out there in gaming media making that point?

Roguecraft was original released on the Amiga in September of 2024. So Roguecraft DX is in essence a newly made retro video game. There are new features and upgraded added into Roguecraft DX from the original Roguecraft. There is no Evercade save option in Roguecraft DX which is really annoying. The game is supposed to autosave at certain points but it lost my game when I went back and checked. I made it through multiple floors by the way.

There is some violence and blood in Roguecraft DX. We pick which difficulty we want. I had to look at the directions to figure out how to use items in Roguecraft DX. What the items are called is not very helpful into what they will do for you. I had to test different ones to find one that healed me. We must find a key on each level to open the way to the next level down in Roguecraft DX.

Graphically Roguecraft DX looks very retro. The music in Roguecraft DX is nice to listen to. The controls are really weird and it took me some time to adapt to them. When the player moves so do all of the enemies on the screen. We each move one space at a time. We can attack until they are out of health or we are out of health. I found a button (by accident) that instantly kills the player in Roguecraft DX.

There is a nice flow within Roguecraft DX. I found myself addicted to playing Roguecraft DX as well. I enjoyed the exploration aspect of Roguecraft DX. The locations are interesting and there is some humor in some of the names within Roguecraft DX. I did not mind having to fight chickens in Roguecraft DX. I liked the potion that would turn the enemies into chickens but it only works in that room.
