The Wild Robot
SCORE: 96
Yolanda, myself and Noah all watched The Wild Robot on a movie night.
I vaguely remember a little bit about this movie from previews. I am so
glad I remembered it and added it my purchase listing when we had the
money. I am also really glad we had the time to watch this movie that
lasts for one hour and forty-two minutes. There is a bit of cartoon
violence here and there within The Wild Robot. Some of it is for comic
relief like The Three Stooges.
Spoilers are going to be a part of this review going forward. These
boxes of robots are debris on an island in The Wild Robot. We later
learn that they were on a cargo ship that crashed. These otters
accidently turn on Roz. She is trying to find her purpose. She is a
robot designed to help humans with their tasks. Roz tries to help
different animals and gives them stickers when she is done.
As you might expect Roz makes a mess of a great many things in The Wild
Robot trying to help the animals. She gets attacked by the animals and
cannot even send a distress signal out for help. Roz goes into analysis
mode and learns the language of the animals in The Wild Robot. Roz
accidentally breaks a goose nest and saves one egg. The egg hatches
Brightbill. Fink is a fox that tries to eat the egg, and the gosling in
The Wild Robot.
Roz overwrites her own programming to raise Brightbill. Roz in essence
becomes a mother. She must feed Brightbill, teach him to swim, and teach
him to fly. The thing about The Wild Robot that really stands out to me
is the heart of it. The sacrifices parents make for their kids.
Brightbill leaves with the geese and even catches the eye of the leader.
At one point Brightbill leads the geese out of the human area with other
robots like Roz.
Brightbill got mad at Roz for the accident that killed his family. Roz
plans on leaving but a hard winter hits the island. Roz saves all of the
animals by bringing them into her hut that has a fire. The company
eventually comes for Roz but Brightbill and the geese free her. Part of
the forest gets burned down. Roz makes a better home for the animals and
then heads back. She plans on seeing Brightbill again someday because of
her heart.
We all really enjoyed watching The Wild Robot. The emotion, and
sacrifice within The Wild Robot is fantastic. I love the part where Fink
gets the animals to settle down. They make the home a place where
predators and prey can stay safe together. There are some great funny
parts within The Wild Robot. This movie earns the rarely given Family
Friendly Gaming Seal of Approval. I recommend you check it out.
