Sheepo
SCORE: 63
I try to go easy on indie games a lot of the times. There are indie
games that just rub me the wrong way. There are some indie games that I
cannot get behind. I purchased a physical copy of Sheepo from the
Limited Run Games website. I am pleased there was a physical copy of
this game. I did not know much about it, nor had I played it before.
After playing Sheepo I can see why it maybe should have stayed in the
digital download realm.
We play these sheep like character that is dreaming about sheep jumping
over a fence. This character is woken up to go to a planet and save the
animals. We must find six eggs to preserve these six different species.
This is about as interesting as Sheepo gets for me. We are then forced
into a tutorial where we learn things like jumping, and wall jumping. I
could not find a way to skip this part.
Sheepo is a 2D side scrolling video game with mainly dark graphics. At
least the parts I played. I will admit the annoyingly hard difficulty to
Sheepo made me lose interest really fast. Why do some of these short
indie games need to be so difficult? There are different objects we run
into that I had to experiment to learn how to use. This is where a
tutorial would have been helpful.
The music is okay if you want to be lulled to sleep. A challenging 2D
side scrolling video game should not put my eyes and brain to sleep
while I am attempting difficult parkour. The text sounds are ripped
right from the Banjo Kazooie franchise. I did not like those sounds
then. Putting it in this game just added another level of aggravation to
my game play experience.
I forgot to mention one really important facet of Sheepo. I picked the
easiest difficulty setting. Some people need to play their games and
realize that they made them too hard for casual gamers. Or some gamers
that do not want to get a PHD in the physics of their game. We want to
have fun and see what is going on in your game. I died again and again
in Sheepo. I kept going back to the last save point. There should have
been more of them on the lowest difficulty setting.
