Learn Math

Long time readers know I am constantly looking for good products for families. I am not always sure what I will find when I play a certain video game. Take Learn Math on the Nintendo DS for example. I thought this game had a really good shot of earning the rarely given Family Friendly Gaming seal of approval. After playing Learn Math I realize it is good, just not that good.

There are different kinds and styles of math in Learn Math. We pick from grade two to grade five in Learn Math. The music on the menu screens is nice in this hand held educational video game. Then when we start to do math problems this Nintendo DS video game gets really quiet. I wish we were given the option to continue to listen to the music.

There are puzzle games that can be unlocked in Learn Math after completing some of the math problems and earning stars. Those puzzle games have music in them too. It just makes the whole quiet math solving problems strange. Kids can learn addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in Learn Math. I found the math to be solid and good in this hand held video game.

The puzzle games in Learn Math are educational as well. I love the second year one where we would move the boxes to their places. It took a few tries to understand the controls in that mini game. The math controls are very logical in Learn Math thankfully. The box we must put a number in is highlighted. If you make a mistake it takes you to that box.

All in all Learn Math is a fantastic learning video game. If your family has a child that is struggling in math then I suggest checking out this Nintendo DS video game. I enjoyed my time with it. The graphics in Learn Math are nothing to write home about. They are not offensive either. Just a little below the standards I have for this era of a video game.
