Duke Volume 1
SCORE: 63
When the Duke comic books came out, I decided not to read them. I
took a look at the art and was repulsed. I wound reading all the other
miniseries on Joe for the Energon universe. I decided when I had the
money I would go back and read Duke in the graphic novel format. That is
what this review is. Duke Volume 1 also has a subtitle of knowing is
half of the battle.
There will be spoilers in this review. Duke Volume 1 contains the Duke
comic books number one through number five. The issues families can have
with a graphic novel are violence, bad language, blood lack of attire,
enticement to lust and more. Duke Volume 1 is 128 pages long. The art is
still very ugly with dark tones. My opinion on that has not changed.
Duke runs into Starscream in Duke Volume 1. His own government refuses
to tell him the truth. Dude goes on a mission to find out who these
Transformers are. Duke runs into Mars Industries and Destro in Duke
Volume 1. At the same time with Duke is running from his own government.
Stalker and Rock ‘n’ Roll wind up hunting down Duke and Clutch.
Duke escape prison with the Baroness in this graphic novel. In fact in
the epilogue Duke winds up recruiting the Baroness to the Joe’s team. At
one point Duke winds up fighting a Battle Android Trooper, also known as
a BAT. Can you guess who wins that fight? If you guess Duke, then you
are accurate and correct. Duke is reported as dead by his own
government.
Duke is actually alive at the end of this graphic novel. Duke is invited
to run the Joe team in Duke Volume 1. This is the graphic novel where
the Baroness takes out the eye of Major Bludd. I found out about that in
the main line G.I. Joe comic books. The characters are certainly
different than I have seen them portrayed and other forms of
entertainment.
