ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 1
SCORE: 72
Thanks to input from multiple readers I purchased some games from
Play Asia. What is interesting is games like ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 1
came over to America, but we were never given the option or choice to
purchase a physical copy. In Japan there is a physical copy. Since the
Nintendo Switch is not region locked I was able to purchase and play ACA
NEOGEO Selection Vol. 1 on my American Nintendo Switch. Why wasn't a
physical copy released in America?
ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 1 contains Alpha Mission II, Garou: Mark of
the Wolves, Metal Slug X, Riding Hero, Samurai Showdown V, Savage Reign,
Shock Troopers, The King of Fighters ’94, Top Hunter Roddy & Cathy, and
Top Player’s Golf. These ten video games are all arcade video games from
the past. The majority of the games on the ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 1
compilation cartridge are violent. There is also some lack of attire,
and enticement to lust issues with these games.
The controls in ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 1 are set up in a really odd
fashion. For example we press 'L' to add credits, and then 'R' to start.
Then in the game certain buttons must be pressed. I never pressed the
right button the first time while playing ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 1.
There is a screen that explains the controls of each game. That is not
always as helpful as you might think though.
I had some high hopes for Top Player's Golf on the ACA NEOGEO Selection
Vol. 1 cartridge. This is one game where the confusing controls on the
different screens led to more irritation than fun. Riding Hero is
another game on the ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 1 cartridge that I had
some high expectations for. Sadly I felt like that motorcycle racing
game was not up to par with the other games on this cartridge.
Want to know something really sad about ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 1? The
2D side scrolling fighters felt the most put together. I am sure some
people will show Metal Slug X some love. I do feel that Metal Slug X was
slightly better than Top Hunter Roddy & Cathy. But when you are the
bottom of the barrel who cares. Alpha Mission II is my least favorite
kind of a game - space shooter. There are some cool powerups, but not my
kind of a game.
There are three other volumes of this franchise that I will work on
getting into my schedule. I want to video capture these games, but I
need to make sure I do not duplicate what is coming to Evercade. Maybe I
record these and then skip them on Evercade. Or should I do it the other
way around?
