9 Years of Shadows

As I find some time here and there I have been playing some 9 Years of Shadows. For some reason this game never spoke to me. I could never really get into 9 Years of Shadows. I tried to. I really tried. I purchased a physical copy version of 9 Years of Shadows on the Nintendo Switch. This game can also be found on the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

Warning there will be spoilers in this review. The intro to 9 Years of Shadows is really cool. There is a castle where curses are coming out of. So the player must take on the role of this lady that is going to that castle. She want to return color back to the land. This game starts really dreary. Early on we bring color back to 9 Years of Shadows.

The issues families can have with 9 Years of Shadows are violence, blood, lack of attire, enticement to lust, bad language, and more. 9 Years of Shadows is a 2D side scrolling action adventure video game. 9 Years of Shadows falls under the Metroidvania classification. We find save rooms that restore us. We take out enemies for money.

Players get a companion in 9 Years of Shadows near the beginning. This companion has a bar that can be depleted by using its attack. The best thing to use the companion for in 9 Years of Shadows is to open doors, and break certain objects. If you run out of the bar then you can defeat enemies or go to a save room. Getting hit also depletes this bar.

9 Years of Shadows is on the challenging side. It can take multiple hits to take out an enemy in 9 Years of Shadows. I had to watch my spacing because while I am tagging the enemies they could collide with me and do all kinds of damage. I found myself bored exploring and trying to find where I could to next in 9 Years of Shadows. Maybe I have played too many of these kinds of games.
