Cooking Mama Cookstar

I am very thankful I had the money to purchase Cooking Mama Cookstar on the Nintendo Switch. This wonderful video game for families can also be found on the Playstation 4. I was a bit shocked to find this game on store shelves when I had heard nothing about it before. It is a Cooking Mama video game so that is pretty cool. I hope you caught some of the live streams I did of Cooking Mama Cookstar. Those were split out into videos per recipe for our video channels.

Cooking Mama Cookstar looks great and it sounds great. Mama has many more things to say to the player. No longer is there just: “even better than Mama.” After playing many hours of previous games that could get annoying. Cooking Mama Cookstar has multiple different things to say and that felt like a major improvement. Mama still helps us out if we make mistakes and fixes it for us. I really appreciate that. I can see how the correct product should look if I had done everything perfectly. I have always like that about the Cooking Mama video games.

The biggest issue and problem I have with Cooking Mama Cookstar is the controls. First off we are not given enough time on most mini games to complete them. I had to figure out the controls of the mini games and then try to get it all done before the timer went out. Cooking Mama Cookstar really needs an adjustment for players that want to play more casually. We can practice a recipe before going for it for real. Which is nice but not always helpful. I also ran into issues where I did what Cooking Mama Cookstar told me to do with a Joy Con and it did not work in the game. This led to some frustration. I learned there are some major nuances to the controls in Cooking Mama Cookstar.

It is so great to have a game like Cooking Mama Cookstar that encourages and supports traditional roles of the family. Cooking Mama Cookstar encourages that quite well. There is even a Noah’s Ark rainbow grilled cheese sandwich in Cooking Mama Cookstar. I thought that was one of the coolest things in this cooking simulation video game. When we finish a recipe we get to take a picture of it and even decorate the picture if we so choose. We can use multiple backdrop locations as well. We are graded in a social media friends kind of way in Cooking Mama Cookstar.

All in all I really like Cooking Mama Cookstar. The controls are the biggest issue. I wish we could turn off motion controls and use just a normal controller for Cooking Mama Cookstar. That would have been a big help. It might be time to show what the food would look based on the mistakes made. Finally Cooking Mama Cookstar needs to ease up on the timer.
