BurgerTime
SCORE: 85
I am very thankful I had the money to purchase the Data East
Collection 1 on the Evercade system. BurgerTime is one of the ten games
included on this video game compilation cartridge. BurgerTime is one of
those early video games that really stuck out for gamers. We have a maze
of ladders to traverse in BurgerTime. There are different parts of a
burger on the different levels in BurgerTime. We must build the burger
by walking across each piece and dropping it one level. Eventually we
can have the entire burger compiled at the bottom of the screen.
There are multiple burgers in the six arcade levels and eight enhanced
levels in BurgerTime. The amount of levels may seem small at first, but
once you start playing BurgerTime you will realize it can take numerous
tries to just beat the first level. There are enemies that are walking
around the screen in BurgerTime. Do not let them touch you or you will
have to start the level all over again. This can be very aggravating if
they corner you on the screen in BurgerTime.
The three enemies players must avoid in BurgerTime are Mr. Hot Dog, Mr
Pickle, and Mr. Egg. We can drop pieces of the burgers on them to stun
them for a short time. I noticed the collision detection on getting off
a ladder to a level or even getting on a ladder can be lacking. Which is
a real problem since players must move as fast as possible to avoid the
enemies. I got stuck a few places because I thought I was at the right
level to move off or on the ladders.
I really got into the music and special effect sounds in BurgerTime. In
fact I found myself humming it after playing BurgerTime on the Evercade.
I know there are plenty of gamers that will get into the music within
BurgerTime. The graphics look decent. I find it a bit funny that Chef
Peter Pepper (the character we play) is so small compared to the
hamburgers in BurgerTime. Those are some giant burgers.
BurgerTime is one of those games that families can really enjoy and
embrace. It is fun going around these ladder mazes and building burgers.
The original creators of BurgerTime had a wonderful idea on their hands.
I would love to see this franchise make a return to the video game
industry very soon. It was a pleasure to play and review BurgerTime on
the Evercade systems.
