Solar Flux

Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital download code for Solar Flux on the Nintendo Switch. This physics puzzler directs players to collect orbs and shoot them into the sun(s) in each of the levels. That will then recharge the sun and save the day. I did not realize the suns needed our assistance in this manner. I am joking about that of course if you could not already tell.

The graphics in Solar Flux are crisp, clean, and sharp. I could almost feel warmth from the suns. The music in Solar Flux is minimalist. Which did not bother me as I struggled with one aspect of Solar Flux. What was that aspect? More is coming up on that in the very next paragraph. I don't want to give you everything in one paragraph. That would make the review really short.

The one issue I had with Solar Flux is the controls. I tried the touch screen controls and the docked controls. We have a circular vehicle that can boost from any side. That means tapping a certain spot or rotating the joystick around to the specific spot. This should be simple to do right? I had more problems with these controls than anything else. The touch controls did not always immediately register either.

Solar Flux is a downloadable only title in the United States at the time of this review. It is thankfully a small download of 256 megs. There are four galaxies to explore in Solar Flux. Each galaxy has quite a few levels in it. I learned to take it slow and careful with Solar Flux. I love it when I got in the orbit of some planet. Do not go into the sun with your collected orbs. That is a bad thing.

I like what Firebrand Games is trying to do with Solar Flux. The controls were tough for me to master. If I had trouble with them, then I know others will as well. I did enjoy thinking about how to do things in Solar Flux. There are achievements for things like getting through the level without using any fuel. Be careful because you can run out of fuel in Solar Flux. Which added to my control issues frustration.
