Reverie

Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital download code for Reverie on the PS4. This code is a cross buy code so it can also work on a Playstation Vita. There is a limited physical copy release of Reverie also available on the Internet. Reverie is a 162 meg download. So this is not a large game. Reverie is definitely an indie game. You will understand more as you continue to read this review.

Reverie looks like Earthbound, and it plays like The Legend of Zelda. I am talking about the first generation of those titles. Reverie might be a bit better looking than those older games. If it does it is not by much. The music in Reverie is okay. I was not annoyed by it nor was I all into it. The storyline in Reverie is dark, and has some content that families may find offensive.

What kind of content is in Reverie that families can find offensive? There are these spirits on this island that are causing havoc. The player must fight them off and free them from objects they possessed. There is a strange religious system found within Reverie. For some reason the words like to start a bit off of the screen for me. This made understanding all of the story a bit complex.

Reverie contains action adventure violence. We whack enemies until they poof out of existence. In my professional opinion Reverie is within the E10+ rating and not the 'E' rating. The religious content as well as the degree of violence makes it fit there much better. I can think of numerous E10+ rated video games with the same level or less in terms of violent content.

This game can be a bit on the short side if you pay attention to conversations and stay on task. There are few swerves found within Reverie. The dungeons made complete sense and I could always pick the right side path. Reverie is a one player video game only. The dark storyline is contrasted by bright graphics. I actually had fun playing Reverie on the Playstation 4.
