Ice Cream Surfer is a quirky retro shooter that has just eaten its
way onto the Wii U. Ice Cream Surfer is a downloadable only video game.
That means you will not find Ice Cream Surfer in any store. Ice Cream
Surfer is not a large download - clocking in under three hundred megs.
After playing Ice Cream Surfer I feel like fasting. All of this food
flying around. Much of it is unhappy with me. I can't say I blame the
angry food in Ice Cream Surfer. After all they are good and healthy
things to eat, and we are playing with junk food. Bear in mind I do eat
fruit and vegetables in the real world.
The various characters in Ice Cream Surfer pay their respects to other
franchises. What kinds of franchises? Things like Superman and Sailor
Moon. Just look at the names of the characters to see what I am talking
about. I preferred the Superman character personally.
With only six worlds Ice Cream Surfer is a bit light on content. Reminds
me of the less content in downloadable video games article we ran
recently here at Family Friendly Gaming. The music in Ice Cream Surfer
is nice. Definitely upbeat, and alive with energy.
Graphically Ice Cream Surfer does look very retro. I am baffled at the
ESRB in terms of their rating of Ice Cream Surfer. They were not capable
of finding the violence in Ice Cream Surfer. We are shooting all these
different characters. How could they miss that? I am at the point with
the ESRB that their incompetence has become common place. I am starting
to think they are misleading the public on purpose. Missing the violent
content in Ice Cream Surfer is beyond laziness, and it is beyond being
asleep at the wheel. The ESRB is at the level of gross incompetence.
If you are looking for a downloadable only retro shooter on the Wii U,
then you should take a cold, hard, long look at Ice Cream Surfer. Just
be careful licking the frozen treats. Unless you have some warm water
nearby in case your tongue gets stuck.
