Family Friendly Gaming Nation sees all kinds of pieces of hardware in any given year. Some are good for families. Some are not so good for families. Some are innovative. Some are helpful. Some look horrible on paper, but turn out to be great. Others look amazing on paper and turn out to be flops.
The Joystick-It Arcade Joystick for Smartphones & Tablets is a little suction cup joystick that attaches to smartphones and tablets. It is used to give the family member a real joystick feel instead of the on screen joystick controls on iOS and Android. I normally avoid those apps with on screen joysticks unless I can pick a different control scheme.
I first tested Joystick-It Arcade Joystick for Smartphones & Tablets out on the iPhone. The results were dismal. The suction cup connected to the iPhone but did not work. I mean at all. Nothing I did or tried made this little thing work. I was beside myself in frustration. I let others at FFG try it out, and they could not get it working either.
Finally the emperor, the main man, the great one threw out an idea – lets try an iPad. Guess what? It actually functioned. With a few glitches here and there. The Joystick-It Arcade Joystick for Smartphones & Tablets is not very reliable. I accidentally moved it off the on screen joystick while playing with it. So it no longer registered. Also at times I had everything lined up it would not register a command.
The suction cup on the Joystick-It Arcade Joystick for Smartphones & Tablets is its weakest link. It is flimsy and easily messed up. Which leads me to believe the Joystick-It Arcade Joystick for Smartphones & Tablets will not last long. What is the point of buying something that only lasts a few weeks to a few months?
My testing showed the Joystick-It Arcade Joystick for Smartphones & Tablets does not work on smartphones. It does partially work on tablets. It looks nice, and feels pretty cheap. The tiny clear box does not include any instructions. Everyone at Family Friendly Gaming had high hopes for the Joystick-It Arcade Joystick for Smartphones & Tablets.
