Bridgy Jones

My youngest son loves trains. Which means he was all over Bridgy Jones when we received it for review on the iPhone/iPod Touch. He needed my help at the beginning of this physics puzzler which is mainly about weight distribution. I needed some assistance at the beginning myself.

The concept behind Bridgy Jones is pretty simple. Players lay track, and build supports. There are certain rules like track has to connect to certain places, and supports have to connect to certain places. Once the family has that down they should be building stable bridges like nobodies business.

The storyline in Bridgy Jones starts out with a mangy mutt seeing a bird and falling in love. The mutts owner is thinking about eating eggs. So off they go down the train tracks to try and catch this bird. The graphics reinforce aspects of my description, especially the mangy part.

The sound effects and music in Bridgy Jones reinforce the railroad nature. I enjoyed most of the sounds in Bridgy Jones. There is one sound I am not very fond of - support beams breaking. This lead to my poor little train and/or cargo cars crashing to the bottom of the pits.

Bridgy Jones is one of the more thought provoking apps I have played in some time. It made me think about the best intelligent design for supporting the weight of the trains. Building a sturdy bridge brought a smile to my face. Seeing someone else build a sturdy bridge also brought a smile to my face - even when their solution was different.

Bridgy Jones is a fun little app that will challenge your design skills. I personally appreciated that, and hope to see sequels to this game in the future.
