Totem Tribe Gold
SCORE: 66
As I first played Totem Tribe Gold I was
ready to declare it the next big thing. It is part real time strategy,
part town builder, and part hidden object game. It looked like a
combination that could go all the way. Unfortunately a few things keep
Totem Tribe Gold from reaching that potential.
Totem Tribe Gold is a islander tribal game. The chief is a woman wearing
very little up top. Totem Tribe Gold accentuates this in the artwork. I
thought the video game industry had progressed past the point of using
women as objects of lust. Obviously someone did not get the memo.
I love how Totem Tribe Gold starts us with building huts for workers.
Then we build huts for our scouts so the islands can be discovered. This
helps with the fog of war each island has. We then can build huts for
the warriors who will go out and fight for us. My favorite are the
towers that help defend our islands.
Be careful in what you build in Totem Tribe Gold. You can take up rare
real estate with buildings you do not need. Islands have different
missions and different dangers. The witch doctor island is one of the
most difficult in this game in my opinion. We have to find so many
hidden items that are insanely difficult to see. There are no hints as
to where they are either.
Combat in Totem Tribe Gold is simplistic, which leads to one major flaw.
These dragons were attacking from four different spots. I could send my
archers (and land fighters at the same time) to one location at a time.
I could not split my forces up and answer a multi-pronged attack with a
multi-pronged defense.
There are totems in Totem Tribe Gold for different animals. The
islanders in Totem Tribe Gold obviously have some rather odd religious
beliefs. Witch doctors are their healers so we can see how they would
need a visit from some missionaries. They do fight off evil spirits in
their own way.
