The Last Story
SCORE: 64
There have been good things said about The
Last Story, and there have been bad things said about The Last Story.
Some gamers love The Last Story, and some are very disappointed by it.
Family Friendly Gaming has stayed out of the argument until now. This
Wii game is from the mind of Hironobu Sakaguchi, and the music is by
Nobuo Uematsu.
The name alone reminds this reviewer of Final Fantasy. Will this be the
last story these people ever do? Probably not. And since the first run
of The Last Story sold out, and there was a second run; we can expect
additional The Last Story games in coming years. Maybe even on the Wii
U.
The Last Story is a 'T' rated game for Teen. The content issues are long
list. So please be responsible and keep The Last Story out of the hands
of children. Adults will find a deep story involving revenge and regret.
Sorry there is not much happiness in The Last Story.
There is a medieval styled world where a young mercenary dreams of
raising his station and falling in love with a lady of a higher station
in life. People in The Last Story are separated by different levels.
Wealth and power bring forth privileges. Many of the poor could improve
their place in life if they were not wasting their money at the bars.
The distinctive British voice acting in The Last Story is generally well
done. There are language issues in The Last Story. To be blunt the bad
words were not needed. In fact the game would have been so much better
without them. The anger and hatred against the murderous regime is
relayed very effectively.
The graphics look good in areas, albeit a bit on the darker side. Plenty
of violent content is inside The Last Story. There are also women
exposing a lot of skin in The Last Story. The characters in The Last
Story seem to have a flippant attitude towards decency and modesty.
Gamers control one character in The Last Story. They have a team with
them that engages in combat. There are some menu screens to help control
these characters. I found they liked to die quite often. So I would have
to run over to them, and hit a button to bring them back to life. This
was bothersome in boss battles.
On the topic of boss battles, The Last Story explains what we need to
do. Sadly it can be easier said than done. And the game has the
characters tell us over and over again. Being told to find the weak spot
over and over again became aggravating. Especially when I had found it
and told the magician to attack it with magic. My attacks were nearly
worthless even though points were assign to the attacks.
There are numerous items, shops, and characters to interact with. Like
any role playing game, leveling up is important. The stronger your team
is the easier battles will become. There are too many battles that we
are pigeon holed into certain kinds of attacks to kill the enemies.
The Last Story can illicit an emotional response. The characters like to
chatter between battles, and during the many cut scenes. So a player can
develop a bond with various characters in The Last Story. They are
generally rough and gruff though. Adults in the family that can handle
excessive amounts of violence may be interested in the storyline in The
Last Story.
