Techpet
SCORE: 77
Last year there was Wappy Dog. This little
mechanical doggie connected into a Nintendo DS game. Little mini games
could be played on the Nintendo DS, and there was also interactivity
with the robot dog. This year there is Techpet. This is sort of the
iPhone/iPod Touch version of Wappy Dog.
Techpet is different in one major way though. The iPhone/iPod Touch
becomes the face of the dog. So the dogs face can be interacted with
while it is on the face of the robot dog body. Families can play the app
connected to the robot dog body, or they can play the app by itself.
The app for Techpet is a free download. The robot dog's body is where
the cost comes into play. There are a few mini games that can be played,
and level ups that can be achieved. Nothing to write home about in terms
of the mini games. Techpet excels in personality and interactivity with
other units.
We went to the instructions multiple times with Techpet. There is little
on this little unit that is easily understandable. It took reading the
instructions to find out how to get into the battery casing. Also how to
make the robot dog actually move, and how to get into the mini games.
With all of that stated once we learned how to play with Techpet we
found some fleeting fun. I can see Techpet being a novelty item that
some families will invest in. Once they learn how to use it, they should
have an enjoyable time. Techpet is recommended for those twelve years
and older - the robot dog. The app was given a 4+ rating. Please keep
that in mind.
I ran into real problems getting the Techpet to walk around.
