Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II
SCORE: 90
Sega continues to impress us here at
Family Friendly Gaming with their Sonic the Hedgehog video games. We
recently received our media code to play Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II
on the Playstation 3. There were two words that were used by everyone
repeatedly. The two words were: "Wow," and "cool." Sega has remixed this
franchise into amazing 2D. This feels like the old Genesis games to me.
But there is one huge difference between those games of yesteryear and
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II - the graphics. Sonic the Hedgehog 4
Episode II looks amazing. I noticed little details all over the place.
The fires, fireflies, water, Sonic, Tails, and more. Everything in Sonic
the Hedgehog 4 Episode II looks fantastic. The violent content is where
we free little cute woodland creatures from robotic slavery.
The bosses have to be seen to be believed. There is a ton going on, and
some very exciting uses of color. There are those out there constantly
screaming that video games are art. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II
helps them make their case, because this is one artistic looking game.
Thankfully Sega kept it family friendly as well.
The remixed music is fantastic in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II. There
are enough similar sounds to make me feel like I am back in the Sonic
universe. But enough new things to pump me up, and get me ready to make
it to the top. I love the music in the bonus secret levels. That music
really excited me.
I believe the price of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II is fair for the
level of content. Those that own Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I and
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II unlock additional content. That is a
wonderful incentive program from Sega in my humble opinion. There are
enough levels, secrets, and achievements to keep most gamers busy for a
few weeks.
The cooperative game play between Sonic and Tails is at an all time high
in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II. I really appreciate that. It
encourages cooperation and shows we can not do everything by ourselves.
The levels in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II are long with multiple
paths. There are signs that show what needs to be done to get through
certain areas. Watch those if you get stuck. Or try the spin dash on the
blue circular thing.
I do not know why so many in our industry are so down on Sega, and the
Sonic franchise. Sega has had a few misses here and there - everyone
makes a mistake from time to time. I just do not see the reason so many
reviewers are holding such a petty grudge. It is time for them to grow
up, and enjoy fun, clean, and wholesome games like Sonic the Hedgehog 4
Episode II. This is one great downloadable home console title. Sega has
another hit on their hands with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II.
