Monkey Slam
SCORE: 87
Monkey Slam may not be
the first ever Monkey Break-Out styled game, but it certainly is the
best one I have ever played. Oh it is true, it is true. We have a big
gorilla with leaves on his head. Why? I don't know. He has a little
monkey that curls up on the leaves. We launch him into the sky to smash
all those floating bricks. Why?
Cause they block the gorillas view of the moon or
something.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Stop asking me why.
With that out of the way. This is Chilingo we are talking about. They
have a high percentage of hits on the iOS platform. What is iOS? Okay I
guess you didn't ask why. The iOS platform is the iPhone/iPod Touch and
iPad. All the I machines. Well okay maybe not all of them, but
close enough. Monkey Slam is brilliant with the gorillas head. I will
explain that later.
The graphics are cute, bright and colorful. The one exception is when a
bomb appears on the screen. The screen darkens so we know there is a
bomb there. Bombs are good things in Monkey Slam. They help us blow up
blocks we may have a hard time hitting. Trust me you will have trouble
getting some in certain levels.
What monkey game would be complete without some monkey sounds? Monkey
Slam includes them, and more.
The 'and more' is the music and special effect
sounds. I enjoyed both of them. Except
I am not fond of those swinging boards. Imagine a board on a hinge that
swings when you hit it. Those things got in my way on more than one
instance.
There are four worlds in Monkey Slam; Monkey Reef, Far East, Jungle
Island, and Space World. Why Space World? Because we like to launch
monkeys into space, and I thought you were done with the why's. Each of
these worlds contains sixteen levels. I am confident that you have
enough brain power to do the math yourselves.
Break-Out games seem to be all the rage lately. Which I don't mind. I
will tell our audience one really important thing - avoid the spikes and
anything else large that can hurt the gorilla. It is great that we can
put our fingers on his face and still see the leaves on his head. That
way we do not get lost with where our pad is. Told you I would explain
it later.
