Family Friendly Gaming normally has
nothing but love for Chillingo titles. Mafia Rush is going to be an
exception to that normality. In this iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad app we are
gangsters. Mafia guys. The rude, crude, disgusting, repugnant murders
who reigned through terrorism just like the Taliban. The mafia is part
of the dark history of America.
Mafia Rush has players steal, murder, blow up, and defend their own
kind. The official modes are Robbery, Defend, Attack, and Survival. The
wanton levels of murder, mayhem and destruction in Mafia Rush makes it a
toned down GTA. The camera is in a top down view point perspective as
the player commits crimes and kills anything in the way.
Dead bodies do eventually vanish in Mafia Rush. This hand held game just
keeps throwing the same looking guys at you. Kill two, and two more
come. Don't kill them and you get over run - with a quickness. So
avoiding the violence is nearly impossible. Players are also given no
choice in terms of the crimes. You have to do them, or lose the level.
The sound effects are irritating. The game is routinely throwing out old
gangster sayings. Things that make this reviewer's skin crawl. The
reason for that is the WMG knows the history of the gangsters. It is not
to be worshiped or admired. They were evil - pure plain and simple.
Their attitudes is part of that - they have that center of the universe
disease.
The controls are done in two on screen rotational buttons. The movement
is on the left and the shooting is on the right. Both of them have
joystick like on screen controls. Go up and to the right and your
character walks up and to the right. Use the weapon down to the right
and he will fire down to the right. This seems easy. This seems simple.
But it can be difficult facing the right direction and shooting the guys
enough times to make them go away. The difficulty is up there pretty
high as well.
Normally Chillingo games do really well with Family Friendly Gaming.
Mafia Rush is one of those games we can not recommend. In fact in this
reviewers opinion it is one to avoid. What good can come from
fantasizing about being a criminal? How will that make you a better
person? How will that make our world better?
