Liberation Maiden
SCORE: 68
Liberation Maiden is a downloadable game
on the Nintendo 3DS that retails for $7.99. Family Friendly Gaming was
provided a download code for this review. We were initially told there
were very few codes to give out. I honestly did not think we would get
one. We are Family Friendly Gaming, this is a 'T' rated game, and Teen
games do not usually do well with us.
I am very thankful that our contacts were able to provide us a code.
Because it would have been a shame for FFG to miss out on Liberation
Maiden. Why am I saying that? Because Liberation Maiden is an
experience. An experience that is the closest thing to playing anime
that I have ever seen.
Look there are plenty of games out there that the big boys will tell you
is artistic. And all their drones will run around repeating it. Could
someone call Liberation Maiden artistic? Sure. But to me Liberation
Maiden is an experience. A deep and profound experience that few games
on the market provide. Let alone ones that cost less than eight dollars.
The controls in Liberation Maiden stick out to me because they fix the
boring shooter genre. We are not holding down a button, or constantly
hitting a button in Liberation Maiden. We move our stylus around on the
bottom screen to lock on to targets. We lift up the stylus and the
vehicle shoots everything we locked on to. The 3DS joystick is used to
move, and we can strafe by holding down the 'L' button and moving the
joystick.
The game play in Liberation Maiden feels natural. We are interrupted by
the gentleman to give us helpful advice. At the beginning of the game it
asked if we wanted his explanation of the controls. I picked yes (of
course), so I do not know how much less chatter there is if no was
selected.
There are multiple unlockable items in Liberation Maiden. I enjoyed
looking at the artwork after I unlocked it. I was really surprised to
find out that I enjoyed playing Liberation Maiden. I would not recommend
this hand held game to children though.
The 3D does not impress me in Liberation Maiden. Sorry, it just didn't.
There are many explosions in Liberation Maiden as we destroy the massive
enemy army. There are also enticement to lust images. Why did the camera
have to focus on her butt at the beginning? Come on, haven't we
progressed past that in our industry yet? There are light eastern
religious beliefs expressed in the story of Liberation Maiden.
