LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7
SCORE: 59
The
first thing I need to say about LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 on the
iPhone/iPod Touch is this game is a technological miracle. The fact that
Warner Bros could put so much content into this little screen is
absolutely amazing. LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 is very close to a
console experience. Definitely close to a PSP or Nintendo 3DS version.
So major kudos go out to Warner Bros for pulling it off.
But not everything about LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 is going to be
roses. I have some issues with this game. First off is the magic. Yes I
understand the Harry Potter franchise revolves all around magical powers
that are sometimes close to what we know of the spiritual realm. The
control scheme is difficult to use at times, especially when fighting.
I thought I was looking at a Nintendo DS or Playstation Portable version
of LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 while I was playing it on the iPod
Touch/iPhone. The studs, characters, and objects look great. LEGO Harry
Potter Years 5-7 is a little on the darker side, and flinging magic at
objects and enemies can get old. The rating of LEGO Harry Potter Years
5-7 is equivalent to an Everyone 10 and older the ESRB would grant.
Apple had to be different and drop it one year.
LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 is an intense graphics hound as well. Some
players will have problems with LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 crashing. If
that happens then you need to complete shut off your machine and bring
it back up. Then go into the game. A high percentage of the time it
stopped crashing for us.
The music in LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 is moody. The levels are short,
and there is humor in the various movie cut scenes. I was amazed at how
long some of these movie cut scenes were. A few were as close to as long
as the levels. LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 is huge. There are plenty of
levels, characters, and hidden items to collect. Expect to get your
moneys worth out of LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 if you choose to
purchase it.
There is a joystick on the bottom left of LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7.
There are three buttons on the right, and one in the upper left. Oh and
one on the top right, and one more in the top middle. The buttons are
small so they do not interfere with the game play. Trying to move around
with that on screen joystick is painful. Especially when trying to line
up a shot, charge, and then attack. I missed way too often because I was
not lined up perfectly. This can lead to frustration.
Ultimately your opinion of LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 will coincide
with how you feel about Harry Potter. If you love the franchise then you
will most likely enjoy this game. If you are not fond of Harry Potter
then you will stay away from it. The decision is yours to make.
