Farm Joy & Co is an educational video game
on the iPhone/iPod Touch. Families can pick the farmer they want, and
then play one of three mini games. There is a puzzle game - where we put
animals together. There is a hidden object game, and a memory game. All
of these are pretty standard albeit a little limited. There are also
things that can be done on the farm screen - like change the season.
My favorite activity in Farm Joy & Co is to put the snowman together. To
me this was an Easter Egg inside this game. I let some kids try Farm Joy
& Co out and they had a blast for about ten minutes. Then they had
played everything in this app, and wanted to know what else there was.
This brings up the price point of Farm Joy & Co. There is a free version
to try it out, and a pay version - $1.99.
Family Friendly Gaming have played other kids games, and educational
apps that are a dollar less. Those apps also contained more content,
especially in the replay value. The memory game can be fun to replay,
but with only three levels it can exhaust interest quickly. The animal
matching is very nice, but can be quickly beaten.
The controls in Farm Joy & Co are good overall. I stumbled in a few
places. Like the hidden object mini game. I would touch something that
was listed and it did not acknowledge. I also was not able to zoom in
like almost every other hidden object game on the market. Translation -
the graphics are really small in that mini game. At times I would touch
on a piece of the animal and the game did not acknowledge my touch. So I
had to do it a second time. It drew me close to frustration on more than
one occasion.
So many apps for children have spoiled us over the years. Farm Joy & Co
is decent, clever, clean, and safe for the entire family. Kids can enjoy
some neat music while learning animal sounds, and pattern recognition. I
would recommend trying the free version and see if you like it. Just
bear in mind Farm Joy & Co is light on content.
