Fancy Pants
SCORE: 81
Companies have been trying to do
platformers on the iPhone/iPod Touch for some time now. Most come up
short in one sector or the other. Usually the touch screen controls get
in the way of how a platformer plays. There is something essential about
feeling the controls instead of having ones fingers right over them.
Fancy Pants enters the fray to show others how it is done. This is a
flash game that has been ported to the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad.
Family Friendly Gaming was provided the universal version for this
review. Fancy Pants looks like a flash game. In fact the art style is
extremely distinctive. Stick figure people, and pencil drawings populate
this world.
The good news is the graphics are safe for the family - generally. There
is some mild action adventure violence. We jump on the heads of other
characters, and creatures that are in the way. They get dizzy and fall
down. Later players are able to use weapons like swords to dispatch the
bad pirates.
The music in Fancy Pants is top notch. The jamming sounds had me ready
to play this hand held game. The music in Fancy Pants fits the fast
paced nature of this game. It reminds me of another well known video
game franchise - Sonic the Hedgehog. The speed in Fancy Pants is very
impressive. It also has a platform feel that is right out of the Sonic
playbook.
There are not many levels in Fancy Pants for the ninety-nine cents. The
levels are however extremely huge. there are multiple hidden items and
places in Fancy Pants. There are also multiple ways the levels can be
played in Fancy Pants. It is my personal opinion that Fancy Pants is
worth the cost. Especially when we factor in how good of a platformer it
is.
I rarely had issues with the controls in Fancy Pants. A few times I got
my fingers off the left and right controls. At that point things went
really bad for me. I then had to find my finger placement after the game
let me restart. I learned all kinds of fun things about physics thanks
to Fancy Pants. The storyline in Fancy Pants is a little corny. These
pirates steal the kings bath tub, and then kidnap your sister to be
their new pirate captain. The story earns points for trying to be sort
of original.
