Treasure Chase
SCORE: 77
I have been eagerly anticipating another
puzzle game from Storm City Games. They have created some games that
have provided me with hours of entertainment. I enjoy solving puzzles,
and they have brought certain games to the Nintendo DS that have stayed
in my personal case ever since they arrived. When Treasure Chase came
in, I snapped it up. I asked for permission first, but you know what I
mean.
Treasure Chase is in the Brainstorm series. This hand held video game
has the player move treasure chests to right places. These are usually
one square off the grid somewhere. Not a problem right? Here is the
deal. There are various blocks in the way that must be moved out of the
way first. This can get difficult as new kinds of blocks are thrown into
the mix. If you happen to get really stuck then you can pick an instant
solve. That works once every twenty minutes. So use one, you have to
wait twenty minutes for the next instant solve to become available.
Treasure Chase contains some fantastic images in the backgrounds. The
blocks are generally stale looking, or maybe that is dusty looking.
There are some colors in the form of certain kinds of blocks. Like the
ones that spring, attract other blocks, or repel them. The "treasures"
in Treasure Chase are interesting. Most of them look like something that
would be found in a museum. Which can pose problems that I will get into
later.
The sounds fit the theme of thinking. That sounds odd doesn't it? Well
here is the deal. The music never irritated me. It relaxed me into
thinking about how to solve the puzzle I was facing. Solving some of
these puzzles can be stressful. So it is nice that the music settles you
down. At times certain tracks felt eerie, but maybe that is just me.
Treasure Chase is a Nintendo DS game that can be found for under twenty
dollars. There are achievements that can be unlocked, and the better you
do the more stars you earn. Two family members can enjoy Treasure Chase
thanks to single card download play, and multi-card download play. On
the sixteen maps there are three hundred puzzles to solve. That should
keep most gamers busy for a few weeks - at least.
It feels good to solve a puzzle in Treasure Chase on the DS. It can be
frustrating when you get stuck. Treasure Chase is one of those games
that gets in your head. I found myself turning this hand held game off,
and doing something else. I was still thinking about how to solve that
puzzle though. Many times I would come back with the proper solution in
mind. The treasures as an award did not do much for me.
Remember I said I there were some problems? Here it comes. The treasures
touch on various topics and content that can and will offend many
Christians. The first treasure mentions the fantasy of evolution and
states it as a fact. No transitional species has ever been found. The
whole dinosaurs having feathers theory still has no proof. I also ran
across content referencing false gods worshiped in different cultures.
As controversial as these are, I am very surprised the ESRB did not
denote them.
