The M

The iPod Touch has brought me hours of enjoyment. I listen to my music, I play fun apps, and I share it with my children. I have also noticed a series of quirky titles. One of the reasons is it does not take big money to produce a game on this platform. The M is the strangest sounding game I have ever played on the iPod Touch. The game is not as strange as the name though. This is a puzzle game.

The M has a darker feel to it. I do not mean in content but in tone. The details are okay in The M, but having to rotate some of these blocks is beyond annoying. The sliding puzzle mode is easier to play, but much less satisfying. The images look decent in The M although a few are a little on the frightening side. At least for my youngest son.

The music in The M has a real moody feel to it. It fits this game in a gothic sort of way. It fits the theme of this game nicely. Personally it is not my style of music, but I do know we have readers who are into this sound. The game is safe in terms of the words used. The special effect sounds work in a way that enhances the experience of playing The M. I still am trying to figure out the name of this game though.

We were given a download code for this review. The app costs one cent shy of a dollar. With all of that said I do feel that The M is a little light on content. Certain games on the iPod Touch have raised the bar in terms of content. Most puzzle games have many more levels, and additional modes. I would not feel I had gotten my moneys worth if I had purchased The M.

The only area of The M that I feel fails is the game play. The lack of options is one of the reasons. I wanted to select no rotations as I have in JigAPix games. The M was not adaptable in that regard. I also ran into screens where the touch screen recognition did not work. Imagine trying to exit a level after beating it and the Exit button was not recognizing I had hit it - over and over again. This frustration led quickly to irritation.

The images are on the screen in The M. This is very handy when trying to match the pieces with how the picture is supposed to look. It is faster to do a puzzle in The M than it is to do a real life puzzle. You know I may be wrong about that. Since The M does not have a lot of pieces. Again I come back to the lack of options. JigAPix as a franchise has spoiled me when it comes to this genre. I believe The M could do better with more pictures and options in sequels.
