The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword
SCORE: 65
The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword takes
the franchise in some new directions. First off Link and others are
above the clouds on floating islands. They are bonded to these giant
birds. Link's bird looks a lot like a Ho-Oh. This Wii game talks about
the birds and human like characters (with Vulcan ears) are two parts of
the same half. One of many references to eastern beliefs.
The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword is the best looking Zelda game yet.
The human characters look very realistic. Nintendo is definitely
improving upon their facial expressions. These little details visually
add depth that can draw many players in. The color schemes are very good
as well. The forest is mainly greens, the bad guys are darker hues, etc.
The flying aspect in parts of The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword is
really cool. I did have some irritation with controlling it during
certain parts of the game. The controls are not that difficult to
master, but chasing down another bird became a lengthy exercise in near
futility. I did eventually manage to complete that part. I needed a
break after wards though.
Tons of religious content in The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword. The
goddess is all over this game. As well as the goddess reborn. For me
this is a major turn off. I do not comprehend why the religious content
was ignored when The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword was regionalized for
a country where the majority are Christian. I understand they have that
belief over there. But shoving it down our throats in a generally
respected and loved franchise is going to turn people away from this
franchise.
Additional voice content is nice. Music is orchestra level. The version
of The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword that Family Friendly Gaming was
provided included a golden Special Orchestra CD. This is great for fans
that can not get enough of The Legend of Zelda music. I noticed
improvements in the voices of The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword from
previous Zelda games. I just wish some more of it was translated.
Expect to go to many areas you have seen before. The Legend of Zelda
Skyward Sword has a different take on them. Most of the concepts still
apply. Use the weapons to unlock new areas. Create the shortcuts by
doing things like rolling logs so you can jump back up into an area.
Work with the different characters, and perform their quests. The more
creatures you help the more bonuses you will receive.
The Wii Motion Plus controller works great with The Legend of Zelda
Skyward Sword (note: Wii Motion Plus controller is needed to play this
game). It can take a little getting used to at first though. Certain
enemies can only be beaten by swinging the sword in certain directions.
I have to admit I found this extremely tedious. Getting to add beacons
to the maps is a cool feature that helped me get around the vast areas
in The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword.
Fi is an odd character in The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword that looks
like a ghost to me. I am not the only one either. This is not the only
strange character I came across in The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword.
Some of them are from previous games. All of them have received a major
upgrade, and look more realistic.
