Skylanders Spyros Adventure
SCORE: 82
Skylanders
Spyro's Adventure won an E3 Bronze Medal in the Most Innovative
Technology category. This little idea is very impressive from a
marketing stand point. Skylanders Spyro's Adventure comes with a
platform, and three figures. Put the figure on the platform, and they
are instantly transported inside the game. You can take that same figure
to a friends house. It will work across platforms as well. Say they have
the Xbox 360 version, and you have the Wii version. The Skylanders can
interact thanks to the platform.
If you have looked at your local retail chain that has this game you
will also noticed additional figures. This is where the marketing comes
into play. There are many more characters that can be purchased. Certain
elemental types are needed to access certain areas of the game. So if
you want to access those area you need to go and purchase one of those
types. I do not see a collect them all mentality about Skylanders
Spyro's Adventure though. Once you have the elemental type you need
there is no reason to purchase more of the same type.
What is eye opening is some of the types. There are tech, magic, water,
fire, mountain, undead, air, and plant. I am not sure how tech and
undead are elemental types. There are over thirty Skylanders to collect.
At the time of writing this review three of them together sell for
twenty dollars, and one alone sells for eight dollars.
The world of Skylanders Spyro's Adventure is bright and colorful. Many
of the characters are very pleasant. The enemies look mean, and I had
few problems with destroying them, This is where the violence comes into
play. Players use various weapons in Skylanders Spyro's Adventure to
knock out enemies. They vanish in a puff, and leave behind a
collectible.
Patrick Warburton voices a prominent character in Skylanders Spyro's
Adventure. It was a pleasant surprise to hear his jokes as I played this
home console video game. The music in Skylanders Spyro's Adventure is
very epic. I felt like I was on a grand quest fighting off the darkness.
I was not the only member of Family Friendly Gaming who found humor in
this game. Others were laughing as they listened as well.
How much replay you get out of Skylanders Spyro's Adventure depends on
how much money you sink into it. I calculate for just over one hundred
dollars you can purchase the game, and one of each type. Two family
members can battle characters in Skylanders Spyro's Adventure which will
also increase the replay. These are gladiator style battles.
I am amazed at the technology of Skylanders Spyro's Adventure. Want to
swap players? Just take one off the platform, and pop another one on.
The game quickly registers this change, and brings in the new character.
We found an easy place to put the platform - bear in mind it does take
up some space. The puzzle solving mixed with hack and slash is okay in
Skylanders Spyro's Adventure. The core of this game is using different
characters. Kids will have their favorites.
The ESRB gave Skylanders Spyro's Adventure an 'E10+' rating for everyone
ten years and older. What is interesting is the box has a 6+ marking
right next to the warning label for children under three. Not sure what
that is about, but I would recommend following the ESRB's warning label
at a minimum.
The world of Skylanders Spyro's Adventure is full of magic, and floating
islands. There are witches, and other such evil characters. I am not big
on the undead types or the lesson in getting them before they get me.
The exploration is fun, and so are solving the puzzles. I enjoyed
playing Skylanders Spyro's Adventure. I am curious if there will be
additional games that use this technology.
