Scribblenauts

Scribblenauts is a puzzle game where you type in the items you need. Say there is a cat stuck in a tree. Well type ladder, or trampoline to get to the cat, and free it. Then take it to your owner. The beauty is there are multiple ways to solve most of the puzzles. The bad news is there are some things that may bother you that is in this game. I tried various words, and it filters out some, and lets others through. Scribblenauts allows players to be creative with how to solve problems. Try different things to see how they work.

The graphics in Scribblenauts is a mixed bag. The art work is comical. The animation in Scribblenauts is herky jerky at best. Or like how a puppet moves on a string. Part of this is because of the numerous things that can be created. Players type in what they want, and if the game recognizes it, it will appear. There is only so much ink that the player has so there is a limit to how many things can be created. Predators can be created, and they will go and attack other animals. In fact this is one of the ways to get past tigers, lions, and bears.

The music in Scribblenauts is whimsical. I enjoyed it as I played this Nintendo DS video game. At times I felt the music was inspired. The special effect sounds range depending on the item. I was not very interested in the animals fighting one another. Scribblenauts has a real unique feel to it that honestly threw me for a loop.

Two players can enjoy Scribblenauts as long as both players have the game. The real joy of Scribblenauts is finding different ways of solving the various puzzles. There are enough levels to keep most gamers busy for a few weeks at least. Some of the materials that are unlocked can be offensive. I spent my own money for Scribblenauts, and am not convinced it was a good purchase. I am also not convinced it was a bad purchase. So I am somewhere in the middle on that.

Scribblenauts lets players write in the letters, or use an on screen keyboard to type in the letters. The dictionary in Scribblenauts is large enough to allow for a lot of flexibility. The puzzles vary in Scribblenauts. Some of them are interesting, and others stumped me for days. At times I knew what to do, but applying that knowledge was not always the easiest thing to do.

We have the sequel on our list to pick up when the finances are available. I am interested to see what is included, and to test reports we have been given. Scribblenauts could have been extremely family friendly. There are good points (creativity), and bad points (the violence). I always felt weird about using a shark to kill another shark. I learned to think about how to solve problems in this DS game. I noticed that killing animals worked best with other animals.
