Santa Claus is Comin to Town
SCORE: 79
Red Wagon Games broke onto the scene last
Christmas with a video game based on Rudolph the
Red-Nosed Reindeer. This Christmas they are following it up with
a video game rendition of Santa Claus is Comin' to Town on the Wii.
There is also a Nintendo DS game, but that is being reviewed by someone
else. This home console game is vastly different from the Rudolph game.
Santa Claus is Comin' to Town is a side scrolling game where children
collect snowflakes. In certain levels we pass out presents to the
children. Who are hanging out in the middle of the street not doing
anything. The mayor of their village outlawed toys since one was left in
front of his steps. He tripped and hurt himself on it. In some ways the
kids can only blame themselves for being so careless.
Santa Claus is Comin' to Town is a winter wonder land. Collect enough snowflakes and the rest in a level
a will turn golden. Kris Kringle is totally non-violent. He also
is willing to accept responsibility for the children having toys. The
odd thing is right after that I had to run away with him. So it did not
feel like accepting responsibility.
Expect to hear sound bytes from the original movie in the Wii game. The
voices from Santa Claus is Comin' to Town are very memorable. I enjoyed
the music, as it made me think of Christmas. For me that is dwelling on
the birth of Jesus Christ. Kringle is very kind in giving the children
toys. But there is no real threat from him if you are bad. You would not
get a toy - if he even found out about it.
Each level has a sock hidden in it. These socks contain bonus features.
Things like artwork and stills from the movie. They are easy to find in
most of the levels. There are a few where you are following someone
while a song is being sung. Everything has to be timed right to get a
high score and the bonus stocking.
There are a couple of mini games in Santa Claus is Comin' to Town. I
love the non-violent nature of Santa Claus is Comin' to Town. If you get
caught by a guard you have to try and pull away. This will free you to
hand out more toys and/or finish the level. Santa Claus is Comin' to
Town includes twenty-five levels.
Santa Claus is Comin' to Town can be beaten in a weekend though. Fans of
the franchise will appreciate this home console game. In my opinion
Santa Claus is Comin' to Town is sort of like the Dora games on the Wii
without the learning. Characters from the movie are included in the Wii
game. The storyline is followed very closely.
