Revoltin Youth

Gamers usually have one of two reactions to retro games. Either they love them or they hate them. The WMG feels there is a market for them. Open Emotion Studios is catering to that market. Revoltin Youth is a retro video game on the Playstation 3(PS3), and Playstation Portable(PSP). It is under the Playstation Minis mantra. Gamers start with one character and move up to more as the game progresses. Teamwork is required to complete this game.

The graphics look okay for a retro game. There are some neat colors, and some of them used in a spray can by the player. The backgrounds can get repetitive within an area. I had trouble seeing ahead, below, etc. This led to deaths on more than one instance. I learned though, and thankfully the levels in Revoltin Youth are short. There are a lot of them though.

The music in Revoltin Youth continued the retro gaming feel. This brings up an interesting point. Retro games can be limited by technology but they can also be allow developer to express ideas that were never illustrated back in that era. Revoltin Youth could pass for a 16-bit game. But some of the creativity in this title was rarely seen in that era.

For the price gamers will get their moneys worth out of Revoltin Youth. There are so many levels and this game does not assist in how to play it. So you have to figure out everything for yourself. There are also some bonus movies that are unlocked along the way. The WMG is happy to see Open Emotion Studios releasing games like this one.

Team work is paramount to success in Revoltin Youth. Players can not get through areas unless all of their characters are alive. Certain skills are needed by certain characters to make it through certain areas. This can be frustrating when a mistake is made, or you can't see what is coming next to know who to use. Trial and error is the best way to play Revoltin Youth.

The name of this game should explain what the storyline is about. The youth are revolting. As if that is anything new in the world. Youth have revolted all the way back to Satan rebelling against God. One of the youth spray paints stuff, so that could be construed as vandalism. Is it vandalism if you are fighting against an evil regime? You can answer that question for your own family.
