Nicktoons MLB Nicktoons MLB

2K Play is one of those companies that continue to impress me year after year. I remember Nicktoons MLB from E3 2011. I was exhausted from tons of meetings and running around the two halls(not mention going between them). They were kind enough to let me sit and watch a demonstration. Nicktoons MLB impressed me then. So much so that Nicktoons MLB earned a Silver E3 Award.

That was then, and now is now. How does this sports collage come together? Is it as good as we thought back from E3? Is it worse? Is it better? I hope to help you understand the answer to that question. Nicktoons MLB is on the Wii and Xbox 360 (there is also a slightly different version on the Nintendo DS). We have been playing the Xbox 360 version. Nicktoons MLB can use the Kinect but it is not needed. I have to say the experience is much better with a Kinect Sensor.

The polish on the graphics is immediately apparent. I was looking at the gloss and shine on the helmets. Yes I picked the Mariners, and then grabbed some animated players to round out my team. The special effects in Nicktoons MLB are generally fantastic. I love seeing the turbo pitches and hits. The characters have interesting animations. Baseball players are generally tame. There are a few  like Ren who picks his nose and puts it on the baseball bat before batting that are a little gross.

The announcers in Nicktoons MLB had me in stitches. One of their comments was something like baseball is the national past your bedtime. Some of their comments can be off color, but they can be turned off in the options if they bother you. None of us here at Family Friendly Gaming were bothered by comments we heard. Fans of the animated shows will immediately identify with the characters in this home console game. Nicktoons MLB is very kind in explaining how to do things when you do them for the first time. This can also be turned off if you are not wanting to be taught.

Nicktoons MLB includes twenty-five Nicktoon characters, and over three hundred major league baseball players. All thirty MLB teams are present and accounted for in Nicktoons MLB. There are real stadiums and stadiums based on the animated franchises. Players earn baseball cards in Nicktoons MLB, and can collect all fifty-four. There are so many modes in Nicktoons MLB that families can literally be playing months later. Two family members can enjoy Nicktoons MLB at the same time.

I am really shocked at how well Nicktoons MLB plays. Pitching is really fun, and so is batting. Once I learned the timing I was going three up and three down. I was also stringing a series of hits together to gain a massive lead. The turbo aspect of Nicktoons MLB is present, but thankfully not overwhelming. I finished each game with real world sweat. I love that! I love it when a game helps me burn some calories.

Nicktoons MLB is a completely different take on baseball that remains true to baseball. There have been arcade style baseball games in the past. Nicktoons MLB feels like real baseball with a few oddball characters. The biggest lesson I learned in Nicktoons MLB is the timing of the swing. I would love to see sequels to this franchise in the future. Maybe a football game?
