Hickory Dickory Dock

Every single day I am amazed at how wonderful God is. He works in ways I can barely fathom. All the naysayers said we would vanish within a few months to a few years. Yet six and a half years Family Friendly Gaming is still going, and going strong. I never know what is around the next corner. I never know what wonderful product will be brought to my attention.

Case in point Hickory Dickory Dock from Mindshapes. This app will teach children how to tell time on a clock. Not one of those analog things that does the work for you. Instead we are talking clocks with hands. So they can learn, one o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock - ROCK! Sorry about that, had a little Happy Days flash back. You never know what we may throw into our reviews.

I was not expecting so much animation in Hickory Dickory Dock. The mouse does different things depending on the time on the clock. There are things like giving him a shower, launching him into a tube, feeding him and more. The clock looks fantastic. It looks like a grandfather clock to me but this educational app focuses on the numbers. The mouse is very friendly looking as well.

The coolest thing about Hickory Dickory Dock is it sings to the child as you go to each number screen. In essence Hickory Dickory Dock contains twelve pages - one for each number on the clock. The song will sing about that number and what the mouse does. This level of interactivity can teach not only the numbers on a clock, but also the nursery rhyme.

Family Friendly Gaming was provided a download code to review Hickory Dickory Dock on the iPad. The educational app currently costs $2.99. I have seen other educational apps at a higher price. The one issue I could see parents having with Hickory Dickory Dock is once a kid knows one through twelve the usefulness of Hickory Dickory Dock decreases. There is still fun interactive things to do, but that could get old. I wish this game had also taught the second hand things like 1:30.

I may joke around about stuff, and harp on a thing or two. Ultimately Hickory Dickory Dock is a great little educational app. I found it to be very entertaining as well as educational - all at the same time. I hope to see future releases from Mindshape that educate in a very high polished fashion. The artistic detail in the clock is fantastic. It is also art worth looking at it.
