Gum Drop
SCORE: 89
Gum Drop is one of the cutest kids games I
have played in some time. I say kids game but there is a caveat there.
Gum Drop requires a reading ability. If your child can not read they
will have problems playing Gum Drop. The concept is extremely simple in
Gum Drop. There are gum drops to the left that are stacked on top of one
another. The longer they stay on the screen the taller they get. You can
not allow your gum drops to touch the top or it is game over.
How do you make gum drops go away? Find a picture on the right hand grid
that matches the word on the left. So if you see the word apple on a gum
drop, then you need to touch the tile with the picture of an apple. Gum
Drop starts really easy, but the grid grows as players make it through
levels. If you should get one wrong then the gum drops get lifted up. In
later levels one mistake can mean game over.
Gum Drop has a very cute look and feel to it. Children will enjoy Gum
Drop as much as adults. In fact I think kids enjoy it more. I wish the
whole reading thing was not present because our youngest son needs help
playing Gum Drop or randomly guesses. The latter does not help him make
it very far though. The images of things like vampires and skeletons are
present in this app.
The music in Gum Drop is stellar. I enjoyed listening to the music in
this hand held game. The special effect sounds are fantastic. My
favorite sound is when I completed a level. Progressing farther and
farther in the game is one of the coolest things. I could burn my way
through levels at a quick pace. That diminished the pain of having to
constantly go through the beginning levels every single time.
Gum Drop is on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. I was provided the HD
version of this game, which means the iPad. I am very impressed with how
easy Gum Drop is to play, and all of the achievements in this game. Some
of them are funny like getting so many wrong, but others are cool like
making it to a certain level with no mistakes. I feel that Gum Drop is
worth the price.
As you clear a level out the next level will start to appear. This is
great because you can pick something from the next level and Gum Drop
will immediately level you up. I really appreciate that game play
mechanic. Gum Drop teaches players to associate the word with the image.
This learning lesson is great for improving hand eye coordination, and
pattern recognition.
