Dragons Lair

I was not expecting a lot from Dragon's Lair on the Nintendo DS. Normally when a major title is downsized onto a hand held it does not do so well. So I apprehensively agreed to review Dragon's Lair on the DS. What I found as I played Dragon's Lair is a game way better than I could have hoped for. This is the best version of this game on the hand held I have ever seen.

Bear in mind this is Dragon's Lair. So the princess is dressed in a revealing way, and there is violence. Players slice tentacles, monsters, and more as they progress. Everything vanishes after it is sliced though. Then there is the death scenes where Dirk the Daring gets turned into a skeleton. He usually has a very unhappy face when that happens. This will occur when the player makes a mistake, which is more often than you might think.

The animation of Dragon's Lair looks really good on the Nintendo DS. This is the biggest surprise I found as I played this hand held title. The animation has been remastered which explains that. The voices in Dragon's Lair are a lot better than I was expecting as well. They are not as good as say the console version, but still pretty good. The thematic music flow on the DS version, and loading times have been diminished.

I played the Wii version of Dragon's Lair Trilogy, and found the Watch Mode. Dragon's Lair on the DS also has a watch mode. However you need to beat the game first. This is more of an incentive to play through the entire game. Dragon's Lair can be very unforgiving, so the all-new move guide for beginners is very handy. I recommend it for those who struggle at the beginning. Once you get the concept, and the flow Dragon's Lair is a lot of fun.

The home or arcade modes are the two main modes in Dragon's Lair. The various options make Dragon's Lair accessible to more members of the family. The key to Dragon's Lair is timing, and hitting the right button. I found myself enjoying this game, and making it through all of the traps. Of course I am familiar with this game, and where to do what so the challenge has been diminished.

You know what I really want? A sequel to this franchise. Dragon's Lair is a wonderful piece of video game history. Dirk is out to save the princess, and stop the dark wizard. Dragon's Lair also teaches timing, and memorization skills. Certain areas will require numerous interactions at just the right time. The attire of the princess, and the violence are the two issues families will need to take note of.
