Dora and Kai-Lans Pet Shelter
SCORE: 87
When Paul told me that Dora & Kai-Lan's
Pet Shelter for the Nintendo DS had come in, I begged him to let me play
and review it. This hand held video game has the two girls running a pet
shelter. Think of it like a homeless shelter but for animals. The cute
and cuddly kind of animals. Diego finds the animals and brings them to
you to nurse back to health. Although few of them looked very sick to
me. That is okay because it is nice to be needed.
Dora & Kai-Lan's Pet Shelter has a cute look to it. The details of the
animals are okay. The eyes of various characters did not look right to
me, but that is a minor quibble. The color scheme is friendly, and all
of the locations in Dora & Kai-Lan's Pet Shelter look appropriate. I
enjoyed taking the animal outside and playing with them.
Dora & Kai-Lan's Pet Shelter is very audible. Dora and Kai Lan will give
you instructions on what needs to be done. Girls need to listen
carefully or you the adult will be called over to try and figure it out.
Most of them are very easy to figure out, but a few took more than one
try. The animals also make some neat sounds. Expect to hear some mild
Spanish in Dora & Kai-Lan's Pet Shelter as well.
Dora & Kai-Lan's Pet Shelter is played one day at a time. These can take
more than one game playing sitting too. Pets find homes and go away.
They can be played with separately, or you can bring them in at the
beginning of a day. Coins are earned for finding them homes. Those coins
can be used to buy treats, and dress up items.
Who doesn't like to dress up a bunny rabbit? Okay, please do not email
me with an answer. I envision hundreds of negative emails answer that
question. Girls enjoy playing dress up, and Dora & Kai-Lan's Pet Shelter
provides that. So I can see this Nintendo DS game doing very well with
little girls. The controls are generally simple. Tap the screen, or make
certain motions on it. Oh and talk into the microphone. Although blowing
into it can work if you do not feel like saying what you are told to
say.
The lessons in Dora & Kai-Lan's Pet Shelter are to make the world a
better place, help injured animals, and to find them a home. The animals
really dictate what the player does. They decide what they want and you
have to provide it for them. There was no rhyme or reason to what they
wanted and when. I learned to go with the flow in Dora & Kai-Lan's Pet
Shelter, and it was a fun experience.
