DaGeDar

DaGeDar is one of the coolest new children toy lines to come out. The characters are all balls with some kind of image painted on them. Think of this as the next developmental stage of the old marbles. Kids roll them around, and have Hot Wheel like tracks as well. The loops in those tracks are what remind me of Hot Wheels the most.

DaGeDar is a very creative and ingenious new line up of toys. Kids get into DaGeDar, and adults enjoy this franchise as well. I did look at the toys in a store before writing this review to get a better understanding of the franchise. Some of the images of certain DaGeDar can be frightening. There are skull characters for example.

Visually DaGeDar on the Nintendo DS looks pretty good. Black Lantern Studios knows what they are doing. The race tracks are insane. There are loops, jumps, things to speed you up, things that slow you down, and players roll in every direction imaginable. I paid little attention to the images on the DaGeDar, and during a race they are too small. Before a race started I took an interest in looking at the one hundred different DaGeDar.

The music in DaGeDar is super charged. It gets the blood flowing as players get ready to race on those tracks. Certain special effect sounds are used repeatedly - like the speed boost. The player also has a turbo button but that boost does not last very long. DaGeDar is the cleanest racing game in terms of audio I have ever played.

With thirty-three levels, and one hundred DaGeDar, players will get their moneys worth out of this Nintendo DS game. Two players can enjoy DaGeDar in either single card download play, or multi-card download play. DaGeDar is ultimately a two man racing game. It would get too confusing to have more than that on this platform.

The one area of DaGeDar that I feel needs improvement is the game play. The controls can be confusing at first, but after a few races most gamers will pick it up. DaGeDar has one difficulty setting - extremely difficult. DaGeDar is a game that is going to appeal to the younger members of the family. It should be easier, or at least start easier. I lost my first ten races. I only won a race when I ran it perfectly. Even then it was extremely close.

I would love to see sequels to this game in the future. I think DaGeDar is a decent franchise that fits the racing genre. It has a lot of potential. Hardcore gamers will be turned off by the kids franchise, and kids are going to have issues with the difficulty. DaGeDar showed me how to pay attention to the race track and memorize it. DaGeDar is better with two humans.
