Anomaly Warzone Earth HD
SCORE: 70
Anomaly Warzone Earth HD is the iPad
version, and Anomaly Warzone Earth is the iPhone/iPod Touch. The main
difference is the clarity of the graphics. That and the screen size. The
iPad is larger. We played the iPad version here at Family Friendly
Gaming. I did not really understand the comments from the PR folks that
this was a tower offense game. Until I started to play Anomaly Warzone
Earth HD.
Imagine for a moment if you will a tower defense game. You place your
defenses on the screen and stop things from going from point A to point
B. We are all very familiar with this concept. Anomaly Warzone Earth HD
lets you play a group of vehicles that walks along a path that is
defended. So in essence you play the other side. The main difference if
you do not have tons of vehicles to throw at the defenses. What you do
have is different items that assist your team in survival. An example
would be a smoke screen making it harder to hit your vehicles.
The graphics in Anomaly Warzone Earth HD are stunning. I am still amazed
at how great this game looks. It defies anything I can put down in words
in this review. It has to be seen to be believed. With that comes a
little price. The main core of Anomaly Warzone Earth HD is violence.
These futuristic machines shoot one another and when their life gauge is
gone - they explode. The backgrounds in Anomaly Warzone Earth HD are
also war torn looking environments.
The sounds in Anomaly Warzone Earth HD have a military feel to them. In
fact they gave me a few flashbacks from my years in the Air Force. The
special effect sounds fit the explosive theme of this hand held video
game. If violent content is not your thing then you will mute the sound
of avoid this game altogether.
The prices range depending on which version you download. The
iPhone/iPod Touch version is currently selling for $1.99, and the iPad
version sells for $3.99. I personally prefer this game on the iPad, but
then I can sit here and play either. The iPad version is not as great
for on the go though. Chillingo is definitely thinking outside the box
with Anomaly Warzone Earth HD.
The key component to Anomaly Warzone Earth HD is the health items. They
had to include them in this game, or it would have been unplayable. I am
thankful that they included the health items. The concept behind this
game is very refreshing. I enjoy tower defense games even if many of
them are too difficult for me. Anomaly Warzone Earth HD has a great
learning curve. This game will also keep your on your toes.
I am very thankful that we were provided a download code for this app. I
am not into violent games. In fact if you have read my reviews for some
years now - you will know that. Anomaly Warzone Earth HD is an
interesting paradox for me. I actually enjoyed playing this game. I did
not pay so much attention to the vehicles shooting one another. Instead
I focused on finding health items and keeping my team alive. Now
generally I had to destroy the defenses to earn additional health items
and power ups.
I enjoyed the choices in Anomaly Warzone Earth HD. I could save up for
another vehicle or upgrade what I currently had. I decided the path to
take with my team. I got to collect certain materials in specific
levels. I tip my hat to Chillingo for coming up with a fresh take on the
genre. Or maybe they have created a brand new genre. What say you?
