Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions
SCORE: 79
Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions is the best hand held version of
Spider-Man I have ever played. I think the reason is Spider-Man
Shattered Dimensions tells a story like a comic book, and is not tied
down to a movie. Since most of the hand held Spider-Man games we have
played have been movie based. Players get to experience a Spider-Man of
the 1930s, 2099, and current day. This is all done through dimensional
rifts, and chasing down an artifact thanks to Mysterio.
I noticed a lot of the graphics were recycled in Spider-Man Shattered
Dimensions for the Nintendo DS. Many of the bad guys in a level looked
exactly the same. Certain areas looked very similar, and visually it
felt repetitive. The really cool thing about Spider-Man Shattered
Dimensions is going to the different time eras. Players need to knock
out the bad guys over and over again. They respawn which really makes no
sense to me.
I am very happy to hear so many lines recited in Spider-Man Shattered
Dimensions. The voice acting is decent, and there is a lot of humor in
this hand held video game. If you are familiar with the Spider-Man comic
book franchise, then you know what kind of wit to expect from certain
characters. The music fits the theme of Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions,
and enhances the game play experience. I love how the instructions are
given verbally in Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions.
There are some upgrades that players can find in Spider-Man Shattered
Dimensions if they take the time to look for them. Various skills are
also unlocked at various points of this game. Aside from that there is
little reason to replay Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions. Unless you want
to try a tougher difficulty setting. Only one player can play Spider-Man
Shattered Dimensions at a time.
Different Spider-Man characters have different skills and slightly
different abilities. This is one of the things that keeps Spider-Man
Shattered Dimensions very fresh. I had to learn to adapt my game play to
the specific Spider-Man I was playing. The story in Spider-Man Shattered
Dimensions is interesting, and it is right up there with many of the
comic books over the years. I had fun playing Spider-Man Shattered
Dimensions on the DS.
The violence in Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions is on a lower scale than
a lot of games. With that said, it is still in there, and part of the
franchise. I find it encouraging that video games are getting such good
writing. Activision put a lot of effort into Spider-Man Shattered
Dimensions, and it shows. I would advise parents to uphold the ERB's
rating due to the violence, and sarcastic nature of a lot of the humor.
I hope to see sequels to this franchise in the future.
