Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
SCORE: 70
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was old when I was a kid. But that's
okay. There are few Christmas based video games, so Rudolph the
Red-Nosed Reindeer for the Wii fills a gap. In fact I love the concept
of this home console game. Take on the role of Rudolph, Santa, the
elves, etc and play some fun mini games. What stunned me is there are
only four mini games in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer for the Wii. This
is not We Wish You a Merry Christmas, nor is it the Nintendo DS version.
The graphics in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer are really neat. The
characters animate nicely, and there are hidden things in each of the
backgrounds. The Abominable Snowman makes appearances at the end of the
mini games. Sometimes he helps with things and other times he is just
being friendly. The Christmas look and feel oozes from Rudolph the
Red-Nosed Reindeer. Some of the graphics felt a little small for the Wii
to me.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is very encouraging to players after they
play the four mini games. The instructions are easy to follow, and
mastery of the mini games comes quickly. I enjoyed the music in Rudolph
the Red-Nosed Reindeer for the Wii, and feel it really fits the season.
How great is it to review Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer during the
Christmas season?
Like everyone else here at Family Friendly Gaming I was very excited to
see Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer come in thanks to our friends over at
Red Wagon Games. I have to admit I am disappointed with this game due to
the sparse amount of replay value, Two players can play the four mini
games. I do not understand why the Nintendo DS version has so many more
mini games to play, and it completely tells the story. The Wii version
of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer can be done in ten minutes. Which is a
real shame because this game had such promise.
Players bounce ornaments, presents, and toys off their heads into either
the tree or Santa's bag in one mini game. This is a lot more difficult
than it sounds, and very frustrating. Painting toys and making cookies
are a lot easier to play and much more fun. Delivering the gifts from
Santa's sleigh round out the mini games in Rudolph the Red-Nosed
Reindeer. The first one is the only one that I had trouble with the
controls. The others are easy to control. Getting higher scores is
nearly impossible on painting toys, and making cookies. Once you do the
best that can be done in the time limit, there is no doing better.
The Wii version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer barely even touches on
the storyline it is based on. We decorate a tree, paint toys, bake
cookies and deliver presents. Yes I am disappointed with Rudolph the
Red-Nosed Reindeer. The good news is I talked to our editor in chief,
and he confirms the Nintendo DS version is much better. I hope this
review helps you in your purchase decisions. I wish this game had so
much more in it. Maybe a sequel.
