Christmas in the Clouds
SCORE: 78
Christmas in the Clouds is a romantic comedy that takes place at a Native American owned and operated ski resort in the mountains of Utah. As you may have guessed, this film takes place during the Christmas season making for some beautiful imagery. The ski lodge decorated for the holidays and the snow covered mountains set the stage for romance. Detracting from the beauty of the film are a few unwholesome images that would make this film inappropriate for the entire family. Drinking is a factor as well as some mild sexual themes. Premarital sex is portrayed though nothing more than kissing is actually shown on screen. This film is rated PG which I feel is appropriate. While not entirely safe for the whole family, those with teens would likely have very little issue with watching it as a family.
There is a great amount of humor in this film which was a pleasant surprise. Being that this movie was not developed by a big name studio, I expected a lower quality script and poor acting. I was wrong. The dialog in the film is truly funny and the vast majority of it is good clean humor with only a few exceptions. There are several characters that play well off of one another making each story line entertaining. The music is also done very well. One of my favorite musical points in the film is when some of the resort staff members are sitting near the fire singing Silent Night in their native tongue. It was a unique take on a Christmas favorite. On the down side, there is some mild language to contend with in the film. The “d word” is used on about four occasions along with “my god” here and there.
The DVD copy I received was a promo copy and thus had very little to offer in the way of bonus features. The movie trailer was available for viewing, but other than that no bonus features were listed. It appears that the retail copy may have a few more items in the way of extras. As far as replay value, I would certainly watch this movie again.
The DVD functioned as expected with no technical problems. The menu was very basic and easy to navigate. The selections were clearly labeled and all worked properly. Anyone with a standard DVD player should have no technical concerns with this film.
Christmas in the Clouds has some good family values woven into the
story. The main character has a great relationship with his father which
makes for some touching moments as well as some comedic ones. Love
obviously comes into the plot and lessons about expectations and
communication can be gleaned from it. A side story of reconciliation is
also found in the film making for a lot of feel good content. This film
isn’t without its flaws, but overall I would consider this a family
friendly flick. At the very least it is something that you and your
spouse could enjoy together.
