Caillou Pretends to Be
SCORE: 79
Caillou is a program about a young boy who is always asking questions
and looking for an adventure. The desire to learn leads Caillou into
various fun and entertaining stories. For those not familiar with
Caillou, he is joined by his Mother and Father, his little sister name
Rosie. Also making appearances is his cat Gilbert and the Grandparents.
Caillou has been a PBS mainstay for years, targeting 2 to 6 years olds.
Caillou Pretends to Be includes 4 episodes of the hit show, which
includes 12 stories of adventure (3 stories per TV episode). The
episodes also include a music video pertaining to the main theme.
Parents can either have their children watch one episode by going to the
Select Episode option, or parents can use the Play All option which runs
each of the 4 episodes back-to-back. One thing to note here is each
episode begins with a commercial from the cooperate sponsor - in this
case it is Chuck-E-Cheese. I can understand why cooperate sponsors are
important, but on a DVD as this seeing the same Chuck-E-Cheese
commercial before each episode grows tiring - really fast.
The DVD also includes 4 previews of other PBS shows (when starting the
DVD). They are Dinosaur Train, Martha Speaks, Super WHY and Wordgirl. IF
you find one of these shows interesting, the DVD does provide websites
where parents shop for additional PBS material.
Also making it on the DVD, are Games and Coloring Pages. These options
can be utilized by placing the DVD in your computer's DVD ROM drive. The
coloring pages can be printed out for little ones to enjoy.
The DVD also includes a Message to Parents. It explains what the show is
about and gives the parents an idea of what to expect when watching
Caillou. I think this is a valuable resource to parents that may not be
familiar with Caillou or PBS in general.
As I mentioned, Caillou has been around for years. Parents that have
children interested in Caillou will definitely want to take a look at
Caillou Pretends to Be. And if your children are not into Caillou, but
you are looking to provide entertainment that also teaches valuable
lessons, then you may want to give this a try. One thing I really like
about Caillou is that the shows portrays a traditional family
environment. Viewers watch Caillou interact with both parents (married
and living together), his sister and his grandparents.
I do encourage parents to watch Caillou with their children. He does get
into some interesting situations and learns from his choices. This
adventures can present great talking points for parents and children.
