100 Classic Books
SCORE: 95
I am really not sure if 100 Classic Books is a game or not. It is on
a Nintendo DS cartridge, but to me it is not really a game. It is the
natural growth of this hand held machine to something more. I am
absolutely astounded that Nintendo could put this many classics on one
cartridge. Books like A Christmas Carol, Alice in Wonderland, Sherlock
Holmes, The Time Machine and many more are included. Our friends over at
Nintendo were gracious enough to send us a reviewable copy.
Nintendo has stepped up their presentation, and lets you pick various
themes in 100 Classic Books. I found the text to be easy on the eyes. I
ran into no vision issues with prolonged reading on my Nintendo DSi. 100
Classic Books made me feel like I was reading a book, and saving a lot
of space. Technology like 100 Classic Books makes us completely rethink
our lives.
100 Classic Books has various different sound tracks that can be played
while reading. My personal favorite was no music. That way nothing
interfered with my reading pleasure. Others here at Family Friendly
Gaming wanted forest or ocean sounds. The train sound track is a nice
touch. The special effect sounds will be familiar to anyone who has
played a recent game from Nintendo.
As if 100 books were not enough, Nintendo also allows gamers to download
ten more books. How long does it take you to read 100 classic books? The
answer to that question is how much replay value you will receive from
100 Classic Books. I can see this cartridge lasting for years.
The touch screen controls are very efficient in 100 Classic Books. The
menus are hidden until you press in the right place. I did have an issue
here or there with the page turning when I was trying to bring up a
window. This was very easily correctable though. 100 Classic Books is a
lot of fun. I like the idea of this game, and how it helps to educate.
I can see a future where cartridges like 100 Classic Books are
recommended by teachers. How much money would you spend on a few
classics? Twenty dollars for 100 Classic Books is really good. 100
Classic Books has me thinking that a Holy Bible (multiple translations)
with concordance could easily be developed for the Nintendo DS. I would
be first in line for a sequel like that.
