Star Wars Jedi Reading
SCORE: 89
As time allows we love to review learning games like the ones that
appear on the Leapster. Star Wars Jedi Reading teaches children between
the ages of five to eight. The lessons they learn are letter
recognition, phonic skills, spelling, and parts of speech. All of this
based on the Star War franchise. There are levels from all three of the
original movies. The goal is to find the different X-wing fighter ships
to build the rebel army. Get enough to launch attacks and increase your
rank.
The graphics in Star Wars Jedi Reading are the one sore point I have. A
lot of the images are taken from the movies, but they were downgraded
greatly. I felt like I was looking at pictures on the Gameboy Advance.
The developer obviously was aiming really high, and children do not mind
the graphical levels. There are some minor images of violence as
stormtroopers, asteroids, or enemy ships are shot.
Star Wars Jedi Reading has some really good music. The sounds remind me
of the Star Wars franchise in every sense of the word. The blaster
sounds are accurate representations from the movies. The voice sound
bytes are also directly from the movies, and fit this Leapster game
perfectly.
I let some kids in the age range try out Star Wars Jedi Reading for the
Leapster. They found quite a lengthy amount of replay value to this
learning game. They were able to work on their reading, and be
entertained at the same time. If you have children in the age range, and
are into Star Wars in any way shape or form, you will find your money
well spent on Star Wars Jedi Reading.
The controls in Star Wars Jedi Reading are overwhelmingly good. The
space ship flying levels have the ship move a little slow for my tastes,
so I took special interest in watching children play it. They adapted to
the controls easily. It never ceases to amaze me at how much fun kids
have with games like Star Wars Jedi Reading. Their reactions were
completely, totally, and utterly positive.
Star Wars Jedi Reading teaches players to well - read. Reading is pretty
important, no matter what music videos may tell us. The violence is on
the mild side, and Family Friendly Gaming did ask for sequels. Star Wars
Jedi Reading is exactly what the video game industry needs, and it was
my pleasure to review this Leapster game (and Leapster 2).
