Spectrobes Origins
SCORE: 69
Spectrobes has made it to the Wii thanks to Disney Interactive Studios. Spectrobes Origins is an action adventure hack and slash role playing video game that also includes monster raising. Before you ask, this is not a Pokemon clone. Spectrobes Origins is in 3D for one thing, and the monsters come from artifacts that are discovered. The mini game to free these artifacts from 3D cubes of rock is one of the best parts of this Wii game. There are over one hundred unique beasts. There are beasts of light, and of darkness. The darkness ones are the bad ones. Rallen and Jeena are the two human characters that are playable in this science fiction storyline.
Spectrobes Origins has a lot of fighting in it. In fact Spectrobes Origins feels more like a hack and slash where you get to bring your monsters along. Six can be carried at once, and are swappable while battling. The player attacks the monsters, and their very own monster will also fight for you. The visuals are bright and colorful, although many of the beasts can give nightmares. A few of them scared the RPG Master.
The special effect sounds in Spectrobes Origins is fantastic. The music is also nice, and fit the theme of this Wii game. The beasts grow from children to adults, and then they get an evolved form. The two main characters get transported to a whole new galaxy. They had to stop the Krawl, their well known enemy. The storyline may not win an Emmy, but Spectrobes fans will not care.
Spectrobes Origins has a lot of monsters to find, collect, and raise. There are also cards that contain codes which unlock materials as well. Four such cards came with the game, so it will get gamers started.
The RPG Master has never been a hack and slash fan. A lot of the action in Spectrobes Origins is exactly that. In this reviewers opinion it gets repetitive. There are monsters that can be raised, but that does not progress the story. Spectrobes Origins felt like a chore to this reviewer. Many of the battles take too long.
The RPG Master had such
high hopes for Spectrobes Origins. The whole light versus darkness idea
is great. The problem is, the light monsters are not that different from
the dark ones. Disney put a lot of different things in Spectrobes
Origins, and the target audience should like it.
