Kung Fu Panda Secrets of the Furious Five
SCORE: 79
I never have watched the original Kung-Fu Panda film, but this was sent to my doorstep to review. In this movie, you follow Po, the star of the original movie, teaching children the basics of Kung-Fu.
While I never did get familiar with the characters by watching the original title, I enjoyed being introduced to them in this bright and colorful movie. While Po was talking to the children, the 3-D animation was amazing and beautifully detailed. During his story sessions, the stories were beautifully animated as if it were ancient Chinese art. Unfortunately, the violence of kung-fu and karate are included. Parents should be advised, as children can easily imitate these acts.
The sounds and acting were very nice. The language was clean and very understandable. No offensive sounds were made. {Editor: there have been reports of eastern philosophies taught in this film}.
I think the thing I like best about this movie are the morals inside Kung-Fu. The movie teaches children that kung-fu is not just about violence, but about concentration and determination as one cannot learn a complex activity in one day. It takes time and effort, and that is a moral I support. There are also some Eastern religious themes, such as meditation. Families should be advised.
The DVD also contains games, making of the film, and other neat
activities families can explore together.
